Energy Reduction - Recycled glass has a lower melting temperature than virgin raw materials
and thus reduces the amount of energy used. Energy usage is reduced by 2-3% for every
10% of recycled glass used in the manufacturing process.
Emissions Reduction - The use of recycled glass also reduces the amount of pollutants
emitted into our atmosphere. A 10% increase in the use of recycled glass reduces
particulates by 8%, nitrogen oxide by 4% and sulfur oxides by 10%. And one ton of carbon
dioxide, a greenhouse gas, is reduced for every six tons of recycled glass used.
Natural Resource Conservation - For every ton of recycled glass used approximately 1.125
tons of the earths natural resources are saved.
