Container Recycling Alliance (CRA) performs a critical step between the collection of recyclable glass and its reuse in the manufacture of new glass containers.
At the CRA processing facilities, reclaimed glass containers are converted into furnace-ready cullet and shipped to glass manufacturing plants. There, the cullet is combined with other raw materials to make new glass containers.
PREPARING POST-CONSUMER GLASS FOR REUSE
Post-consumer, recycled glass is received in roll-off trucks, dump trailers or gaylord containers and unloaded into one of our material storage bunkers.
The glass is loaded into a feed hopper and then moves up a conveyor and into our processing equipment.
The processing equipment will remove contaminants such as bottle caps, ceramics, paper and other non glass items. The glass is then sized and sorted by color utilizing state of the art optical sorting equipment. The clean, color sorted cullet can then be shipped directly to the container manufacturers where it is used to make new glass containers or it can be further processed to reduce LOI and moisture and ground to specific size specifications required by our customers.
